  • Exactly. And let's not forget job setting. Being a secretary, accountant, teacher, or psychologist in a private company or community setting is very different from doing that same job in a federal prison.

  • We still get social security, and we still PAY INTO social security. Federal wages are not treated differently from other wages. We still pay federal tax, too - so we're kinda sending checks back and forth.

  • Why wouldn't we? Do you think that there are no disputes between line staff and management within the government? No disagreements about working conditions, shift assignments, evaluations, promotion selections? There's a lot the union does for our employees.

  • I'm a federal employee, and I get paid pretty well, but not extravagantly. I can live without the whopping 1.4% I was going to get, but of course I'd rather get it. It wasn't even enough to cover the increase in our health insurance premiums anyway.

  • LOL - I guess that's considered "turning down the heat" in Georgia, huh? My heat's at 50-55 at night or when I'm out, and 60-65 when I'm home. (Northern Adirondacks).
